The nice thing about building a new-media site like this IMC 454 blog page is that it offers people a chance to see all the IMC blogs up close and personal and perhaps even leverage their existence a bit. I called this blog IMC 454 because that’s the class I teach. However, there’s a non-454 blog that a number of other IMC students mentioned to me at a Chicago Tweet-Up a few weeks ago. Designed by students – Stacy Cohen, Marina Molenda, Colleen Maley and Lauren McCabe – it’s called Vitamin IMC, the essential nutrient for healthy marketers, and is certainly worth adding to our list.

Cohen told me the perky little Vitamin IMC “blog was designed as part of the IMC branding team’s efforts to raise the profile of IMC as a discipline, as well as, increase the quality and quantity of recruiters in search of newly-qualified practitioners. we also hope to have fresh IMC perspectives posted by readers as we continue to engage students and other bloggers. ”

Beside the bright orange logo certain to remind us northerners that we haven’t seen much sun this winter, Vitamin IMC takes a few significant stabs at creativity that I find fascinating. At Vitamin IMC, the blogroll, for instance, has taken on a life of its own. At Vitamin counter, the blogroll is renamed, “Other Sources of Marketing Nutrition.” Vitamin IMC integrates the blog with a Twitter feed of the same name.

Whether written by guest bloggers or the student staff, the posts are well written and insightful. How could you not love a blog that speaks to IMC strategy at Yahoo one minute and Snuggie the next? Take a look at see for yourself.

I have at least 1,000 recipes. I have recipes from my mother, my grandmother, my boyfriend’s mother…you name it, and I’ve got the recipe.

After an hour or so of cataloguing my recipes, I’ve developed my blog strategy and will bring the best of what I have to my blog, 1000 Recipes. Each week, I’ll highlight a new recipe using healthy ingredients for everyday living.

My first culinary adventure: How do you create healthy pizza dough? It’s simple if you use whole wheat flour. Check back in on my blog and soon you’ll be making homemade dishes in a healthy way.

Linking the working girl of today with the philosophy of a man who lived 150 years ago is enough to make me want more. There has to be something a man can learn from this as well, right?

Maybe when the idea for this blog took shape 10 weeks ago the topic was difficult. But not any longer. How the search going since then? Just tell us you don’t plan to use the bunny-costume strategy. It’s already been done.

But most of all, I’m curious at how you rate cupcakes after you hit the third or fourth shop. I wonder … what’s the real point of those little colored bits on the top play?Check out the Cakes in Cups blog.

And most importantly … do you have to pay for the cupcakes if you tell them you’re writing a review?

The past six months have not been easy for the aviation industry, or any other industry quite frankly, as we’ve all witnessed the bottom falling out of the marketplace. No one has any idea whether we’ve actually hit the bottom or not, nor does anyone know which soothsayer has the magic dust we need to recognize the bottom when it does appear. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I just think right now that beam is too dim for anyone to notice.

Despite all the truly ugly news lately, something really nice and completely unexpected occurred while I was driving to lunch on Monday, something that made me pull over and take a deep breath. Long about mid afternoon, my Twitter account lit up with congratulatory notes from friends being sent to my iPhone. “Nice job,” “jetwhine Speech speech! Congrats again!” and then there was, “Congrats on the honors. I admire the work you have put into your site and I’m glad someone else appreciates your work as well.”

Of course I’m reading these notes thinking what a nice bunch of folks my blogger/Twitter friends are. I was also completely clueless about the topic. Finally, at lunch I began Tweeting back asking for an explanation because I was sure someone was pulling my leg.

Then came the news from another Jetwhine reader … “Don’t tell me you’re the last to know Rob. Jetwhine won a Webbie as Best Aviation Blog of 2008.” I was numb for a couple of seconds before I started cheering, confirming of course, that I indeed don’t get out enough. The folks at Flightglobal named Jetwhine, along with a couple of other first-class comrades in blogging, The Cranky Flier and Nuts About Southwest as the Top 3 Blogs for 2008. I was very pleased just a few shorts weeks ago to host Paula Berg, Southwest Airlines manager of emerging media, as a speaker to my Integrated Marketing Communications class at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern. We’ll have to try and get Cranky Flier out next term.

What can I say except thanks to everyone who has helped make Jetwhine a place aviation aficionados visit regularly enough to consider us one their favorite spots for a little aviation buzz and bold opinion. Thanks is also in order to my buddy and fellow blogger Scott Spangler who does one incredible job of covering topics like LSAs, flight training and technology. And the timing couldn’t be better as Scott begins his second year as my Jetwhine accomplice. Have you noticed he seems wise enough to avoid the political minefields I seem to keep jumping on? Mmmmm.

(Scott Spangler) There are many awesome writers covering this industry from a variety of different angles. Scott and I are are just pleased to have been chosen as two of the best for this brief moment in time.

Oh BTW, if the Flightglobal folks are reading this, Scott and I were wondering what we should wear to the award ceremony. And where is that ceremony in fact? Seems we never got the memo. But thanks for that Webbie.

There is no way anyone could not like a blog that talks about the immense variety of yummy dining options available to Chicagoans. When the first post goes right to the heart of things with a look at a “fresh seasonal meal.” In Chicago? In the middle of the ugliest winter in 10 years? I had to read on. Nosh and the City is not simply another restaurant review blog.

Author Annie Krill talks about the experience as well. How about The good: the lazy pierogi, skirt steak and blue cheese ravioli, Scottish olives and duck fat fries. But what would an eatery be without the people who work there? The tacky: The Host. He’d definitely taken a sassy pill that night. Or best of all, The ugly: the sweaters. Seriously. Someone sent a memo out to all males dining at The Bristol that night – it was comparable to a Mr. Rogers’ convention. Definitely an unexpected observation that night. Ugly does not reflect on the restaurant in this situation, but simply the clientele’s attire. Moving on.

Like the author, Nosh in the City is kind of sassy. That’s refreshing.

Qualify your search by adding “women” to the term running and the results drop by nearly 400 million. Obviously this is an under-treated segment of the running world. Enter Running Toward Spring, one woman’s training biography of how she prepares for a big competition. In this case, it’s the Door County Half Marathon in early May of this year.

As a former runner myself – never did this kind of thing though – I was fascinated to learn how useful it is to run in groups. And these people talk about goals and make regular progress checks. Running, or even thinking about running? Check out Running Toward Spring.

When I saw the topic of this blog – Adult Children of Divorce – I must admit I took a big gulp. Whooo boy. I’ll bet I know where this might be headed, I thought. Having grown up in a family where mom and dad were around around my entire childhood, I came to realize that I was a bit naïve to this entire topic.

Author Erin Chelsea took an interesting direction with this blog. It’s not focused around adults complaining about what a raw deal they’ve been given, but rather this is a place where these adults can listen to a little solid advice from someone who has been there before. The first post – The dreaded holidays – is worth the visit alone.

How do you cope with two sets of parents and grandparents, all of whom expect to see you at the holidays. No excuses taken.

Read on at Adult Children of Divorce.
